Auto - Buying and Insurance - Alternatives to Japanese Vehicles
The earthquake and tsunami in Japan are likely to slow down production and cripple shipping facilities in Japan, making the supply of Japanese cars tight, possibly for months. Some Japanese cars, however, like the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry, are made in factories in the U.S. (In fact, Honda produces almost 80% of the cars it sells in the U.S. at American factories.)
The top selling hybrid, the Prius, is made in Japan, as well as all Lexus models. Check out the Ford Fusion hybrid or the Hyundai Sonata hybrid. The Ford Fiesta, Volkswagen Golf, or Chevrolet Cruze could be solid options if supplies of the Honda Fit are low.
Supplies of Japanese cars may be impacted for a number of months. If you’re in the car market, check out other options.
